The Minister of Education and Higher Education, Prof. Amjad Barham, met on Thursday with Hassan Mleihat, General Supervisor of Albaidar Association for the Defense of Bedouin Rights in Palestine, to discuss avenues for joint cooperation to protect the right to education in Bedouin and remote areas, amid ongoing violations by the occupation and repeated settler attacks targeting these communities.
The meeting addressed the importance of internationalizing the file of violations affecting education, particularly in Bedouin communities, and working together to provide scholarships for university students from these areas. It also highlighted the need to direct academic research and university studies toward issues affecting Bedouin communities and targeted regions, in order to strengthen students’ awareness of their social and national causes.
In this context, Barham emphasized the importance of partnerships with human rights and community organizations working to defend education, noting that education in these areas represents a national priority and a cornerstone of resilience and survival. He commended Albaidar’s role in documenting violations, advocacy, and dedicating sustained efforts to defending Bedouin rights.
For his part, Mleihat praised the Ministry’s efforts and stressed the importance of enhancing joint action, developing collaborative mechanisms to protect education, reinforcing the internationalization of the education file, and shedding light on the harsh realities and challenges faced by Bedouin communities and remote areas.
